The IIU Debate Club
The IIU English Debate Club (EDC) is among the most successful debate clubs in the region. With strong support from the university, the EDC has managed to compete in every major tournament in the world for some time now. The results include breaking 7th at Sydney Worlds, breaking consistently at Australs and winning the All-Asians on multiple occasions, including winning the ESL Worlds and ESL Australs. IIU was a semifinalist twice in AUDC.
Under the guidance of the Speech and Interpersonal Communication Enhancement (SPICE) Department, debaters are encouraged to hold extra co-curricular classes on public speaking, critical thinking, and hosting book review sessions for the benefit of all IIUM students. The IIUM encourages all its students to involve themselves in debates, public speaking, mooting, and critical thinking activities.
Presently, the EDC has helped train various universities and high school debate teams. Programs such as the bi-annual IIU debate league, the IIU IV's and the IIU inter-school championship serves as a platform for IIU to give back to the community.
